CIRCULUS | Site-specific sound installationn (2008)

Commisioner: Old Uppsala Museum, Sweden

Circulus is a 12-channel site-specific sound installation developed for what locally is referred to as the sacrifial site of old Uppsala. As early as the 3rd century AD and the 4th century AD and onwards, it was an important religious, economic and political centre. Medieval Scandinavians held Gamla Uppsala as one of the oldest and most important religious locations in Scandinavia. People have been buried in Gamla Uppsala for 2,000 years.

The work Circulus, is developed for a circular constelation of wild groing aspens. In the work, a smooth high frequency sound field covers the space of the circle, only to be experienced when the visitor enters the Circulus.
